One Page Website vs Multi-Page Website: Which Do You Actually Need?

One of the most common questions I get is: 'Do I need a big website or will a single page work?' The answer depends on three things: your goals, your audience, and where you are in your business.

Let's break it down clearly.

A one-page website is ideal when you need a clean, professional online presence quickly. It works well for businesses that offer a focused set of services, need a digital business card, or want a dedicated landing page for a specific campaign.

The advantages are clear: faster to build, lower cost, easier to maintain, and highly focused. Visitors get everything they need on one page — who you are, what you do, and how to get in touch.

A multi-page website (what I call an authority website) is the right choice when you need to establish deeper credibility. If you're a consultant, professional service provider, or thought leader, a single page often isn't enough to communicate the full scope of your expertise.

Authority websites allow you to dedicate space to case studies, detailed service descriptions, thought leadership content, and multiple contact pathways. They're built for SEO, which means they can attract organic search traffic over time.

Here's my simple framework for deciding:

Choose a one-page website if: you're just starting out, you have a straightforward offering, you need something live quickly, or you're running a specific campaign.

Choose an authority website if: you're an established professional, you need to build trust and credibility, you want to rank in search engines, or you're targeting high-value clients who do research before reaching out.

The truth is, many clients start with a one-page website and upgrade to an authority website as their business grows. There's no wrong starting point — what matters is that your online presence clearly represents your value.
